Find answers to common questions about FloatBeats
FloatBeats uses Android's Notification Listener service to detect what song is playing on your device. When a music app (like Spotify, YouTube Music, etc.) shows a "Now Playing" notification, FloatBeats reads the song title and artist to fetch matching lyrics. This happens entirely on your device.
FloatBeats works with virtually any music app that shows "Now Playing" notifications! This includes: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Wynk, SoundCloud, VLC, and many more. If your music app shows the song in notifications, FloatBeats can detect it.
Notification Access is essential for FloatBeats to work. It allows the app to read music notifications and detect the currently playing song. Without this permission, FloatBeats cannot know what song you're listening to. Don't worry โ we only read music-related notifications; we don't access your messages or other personal notifications.
This permission allows FloatBeats to show lyrics as a floating overlay on top of other apps. Without it, you'd have to keep switching between your music app and a lyrics app. This is what makes FloatBeats special โ lyrics follow you everywhere!
Yes! FloatBeats is completely free to use with all core features including floating overlay, karaoke mode, party mode, and translation. We believe everyone deserves access to synced lyrics. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core experience will always remain free.
Party Mode lets you sync lyrics across multiple devices! Here's how: The host opens Party Mode and generates a QR code. Friends scan the QR code with their phones to join. Everyone sees the same lyrics in real-time, perfectly synced. It's perfect for karaoke nights and sing-alongs!
Karaoke Mode provides a full-screen, immersive lyrics experience. The current line is highlighted and animated, making it easy to sing along. You can tap to open Karaoke Mode from the Currently Playing card or the overlay. Perfect for singing sessions!
Our Smart Translation feature uses on-device machine learning to translate lyrics. Hindi lyrics are converted to Hinglish (romanized Hindi) so you can read and sing along easily. Other languages are translated to English. Just tap the translate button on the overlay!
Yes, partially! FloatBeats caches lyrics locally on your device. Songs you've played before will work offline. However, for new songs, you need an internet connection to fetch lyrics for the first time. We cache up to 50 songs for offline access.
This is common on Android 13+ for apps installed via APK (sideloaded). Android blocks sensitive permissions for security. To fix it:
For detailed steps with visuals, see our Setup Guide.
There could be a few reasons: 1) The song might not have synced lyrics in our database. 2) The song title/artist in your music app might differ from our database. 3) Check if Notification Access is enabled. 4) Some songs (especially very new releases) may not have lyrics yet. You can help by contributing lyrics!
Open FloatBeats and tap "Start Overlay". If the overlay still doesn't appear, check: 1) "Display Over Other Apps" permission is enabled, 2) The app isn't being killed by battery optimization โ add FloatBeats to battery optimization whitelist, 3) Try restarting the app.
Sometimes lyrics timing may be slightly off. Currently, we sync lyrics based on your music player's position. If you notice consistent issues with a specific song, please report it through the Contact page. We're working on manual offset adjustments for a future update!
First, ensure Notification Access is granted. Then check if your music app shows "Now Playing" notifications. Some music apps have settings to enable/disable notifications โ make sure they're on. If the problem persists, restart FloatBeats and try again. Contact us if issues continue.
No, we respect your privacy! FloatBeats only reads music-related notifications to detect songs. We don't access your messages, photos, contacts, or any other personal data. Lyrics are cached locally on your device. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
Your listening history is stored locally on your device only. We don't upload your listening data to our servers, and we never share it with third parties. The history feature is purely for your convenience to quickly access recently played songs.
